Fans of Elgar’s style will love Adam Carse’s Winton Suite with its stirring and infectious fast sections contrasted with lyrical, reflective passages. Stephen Yates’ Concertino featuring obligato viola will be World Premiered and its Concerto Grosso formation is continued on with Corelli’s very own well loved Number 12. Using a harpsichord for the first time we welcome the virtuosic Monika Kornel and take the opportunity to perform Walter Leigh’s innovative Concertino. We will leave you thoroughly fulfilled with Tchaikovsky’s irresistible Serenade for Strings.

We take you from the formidably precocious Rossini, who wrote six string sonatas at the age of twelve in the space of three days, to the intimate and yet cosmic harmonies of John Corigliano’s Voyage. Due to popular demand we bring to you again Tommy Tycho’s electrifying Violin Concerto performed by LCO’s Leader, Maria Lindsay. To rival his Contemporaries Dvorak and Tchaikovsky, Hamerik’s Symphony Spiritulle will transport you to the timeless romance that is the nineteenth century.

From Mozart at his most turbulent and dramatic to the carefree flavour of of clasical and romantic Lieder, we then perform a lesser known yet most delightfully melodious work by Kurt Atterberg; a post-romantic Swedish composer who was greatly influenced by the works of Brahms. Listen out for familiar English folk tunes in Mr. Ireland’s Downland Suite before we introduce a stirring work of mixed emotions and beautiful harmony reminiscent of Dvorak, in Napravnik’s Melancholy. We round off a year of musical feasting with the great Finish composer, Rautavaara and his Divertimento with its austere beauty, infectious harmonies and driving rhythms.
