We believe that Sydney is ready for a new chamber orchestra. We want to add to the musical contributions, in particular in regional urban venues, thus making live music more accessible to more people. San Francisco, our Sister City, has four professional chamber orchestras and is comparable in size to Sydney.

There is more musical talent in Australia than opportunities for artistic and professional development! We have invited our players to join us from all walks of string-playing life. Some have high-profile orchestral posts, some are freelance and chamber musicians of the highest order and we have some incredible rising new talent with us as well. In every way, we are so thrilled about the group that we have established and they have all joined us with a mutual love and understanding of the chamber orchestra experience.

Maria Lindsay has been Artistic Director and principal performer in a successful regional chamber music series in the Blue Mountains for 5 years. Angela Lindsay has regularly performed there and in other small venues. Through this we've seen an enormous appreciation for good music outside the big metropolitan venues. This experience of playing in smaller venues where we are able to speak with and listen to our audiences, has given us an understanding of the importance of the conversation between composer, performer, and audience. Our aim is to fulfill a very intimate approach, allowing the orchestra to build a rapport with our audience as we introduce works with fascinating points and anecdotes.

Donations Appeal

Dr Tommy Tycho, patron of Lurline, says that the orchestra is going from

strength to strength artistically and musically, being booked well into

2011. However, it is currently in a financial crisis due to funding and box office shortfalls, which may

jeopardize its future commitments.
